Over Wintered Swallowtail

Last fall a student brought a small caterpillar in to school from the families carrot patch. I wondered whether the carrot tops would last long enough for it to go into a chrysalis stage. New fall leaf sprouts did the trick and being late in the season, it over wintered in our garage. She’s a beauty and survived the classroom parade to visit all who helped feed her.
