I’m reposting for this weeks Weekly Photo Challenge. I guess I was ahead of my time, but this photo of shadows fits the theme perfectly.

One of three hiking trails I weekly walk is the Zoar Valley Trail, part of the Ohio and Erie Canal Tow Path corridor. The trailhead I use begins near the Historic Village of Zoar and accommodates hikers, bike and equestrian traffic. The river increasingly is used as a recreational waterway. Eventually this trail which begins near Cleveland, travels through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and 4 county park systems will reach the Ohio River following the old canal route. The portion I routinely walk has served as canal, fish hatchery and a sawmill trace. It has been nicely repurposed , which is the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge theme of the week.

To Stand
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:13 NIV

These geese were enjoying our spring like mid-January day. Gracing the sky with formation, teamwork, and honky tonk in flight. More graceful pictures can be found at the

I thought perhaps getting shots of Bluejays and Cardinals along the trail would be a good starting point to try and capture bird photos. Its not been all that easy. I like to be moving and waiting is required (or a good dose of luck) to get a good photo. Anyway, here are a couple of winters bold ones. I hope to look back at these and believe that I’ve made some progress in a few weeks.

Little One
My venture into bird photography on the trail continues. Success is small at this point, as is this little Downy woodpecker I was fortunate enough at getting a clean snap. Black and white processing offered a little more detail in an otherwise rather drab setting.

Trice
I found this ice formation hanging from a branch over the Tuscarawas River during a recent Artic blast Eastern Ohio. Before the cold, the rains came. Whether by lapping flood waters or dripping rain, this ice sculpture remains.
