Looking for something spare this week for the weekly photo challenge. This snapping turtle came up out of the old canal bed (Zoar Valley Trail, Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail) looking for some soft ground to lay her eggs. Her toupee was not fooling me.
Those guys can have a nasty bite, or so I have heard. Fortunately, I’ve never had to experience that for myself.
They are a little nasty when provoked. Fortunately a little slow on land.
That’s true. Something I can outrun. LOL
Cute pictures! She looks really angry.
Considering she has a couple dozen or more eggs to lay… 🙂
They are amazing creatures. Excellent photographs!
Thank you. Yes they are, a modern day dinosaur of sorts
Older than dinosaurs! 🙂
And they ‘re still here! Must be their attitude 🙂
Hiss! 🙂
Should you ever have to move or relocate one: They can be hypnotized by using a long file (watch your hands) and gently rubbing the edge of their carapace not too far from the head. They have longer necks than most think… so this must be done very carefully!
I have shot of another with long neck taken at a distance. They retract when you get close. This one snapped and lost her hair piece.

Love the turtle. Looks like she gave you a slight grin there 🙂
It’s an “if you know what’s good for you grin”
Intriguing shots … how fortunate to live near such age-old creatures.
Until they snap your fishing line haha 🙂
