I set off to take a morning hike before the heat took over the day. My intent was to find Monarch Butterfly Caterpillar or Chrysalis. I did find two caterpillars and a nice collection of other shots of interest.
My hike was in the reclamation area of the Norma Johnson Center.
Morning temperature 73F, clear skies, slight breeze, light dew. Time 8:30 to 9:30
- There where quite a few Monarchs flying today, I thought that I should have a productive morning.
- Next to the milweed were these bugs. I’m sure that I do not want them in my garden.
- Dew on the Queen Anne’s Lace provided a little glamor to the morning trail.
- I’m not sure what these are but it reinforces to me that the milweed plant plays host to the prarie meadow ecosystem
- I captured the flower but it had the upper hand in capturing the morning light and dew.
- Under a big broad leaf, one that had not been munched on this caterpillar appeared to be ready to attach itself and enter its cocoon.
- Ready for a big change in life.
- A healthy appetite.
- Munch, munch.
- Bonus capture. After landing on me, it was gracious enough to settle on a cattail along the trail.
- Played a little music for me too.
